Dear Applicant,

Thank you for expressing an interest in the PhD Programs in Physical Therapy at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. According to the US News and World Report 2004 Guide to Best Graduate Schools, the KU Medical Center Physical Therapy program is ranked 25th out of over 200 PT schools in the United States. Of the PT programs located in public schools, KU ranks 10th in the nation. Enclosed are the forms and instructions necessary to initiate the admissions process. Please review the entire packet and read the instructions carefully before completing the forms.

We offer two PhD programs: a traditional PhD in Rehabilitation Science and our DPT/PhD program. The unique DPT/PhD program is designed to train students in physical therapy with an advanced PhD focused on research in the field of rehabilitation sciences. The program begins in early June and includes classroom, laboratory, research and clinical learning experiences. Students conduct and present independent research and participate in 8 weeks of part-time and 18 weeks of full-time clinical affiliations. As an academic health science center, the University of Kansas Medical Center provides ample opportunity for students to interact with a large number of health care professionals, world-renowned researchers as well as students from other disciplines.

Admission to the PhD programs in Rehabilitation Science at KUMC is a competitive process. The faculty values a well-rounded applicant, one who has demonstrated his/her academic and cognitive abilities as well as his/her personal and professional potential.

The quality of the applicant pool varies from year to year, therefore the qualifications necessary to be accepted into the program also vary.
