To be considered for admission into KU's DPT Degree Program, the following are required:
  1. Undergraduate Degree
A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution must be completed prior to start of DPT program classes. The degree can be in any field, but must course work must have included the DPT prerequisite courses.

Students with degrees from a university outside the U.S. may be considered provided they meet the requirements equivalent to a bachelor's degree from a program in the U.S.

In exceptional cases, persons not holding bachelor's degrees also may be admitted if they are academically well prepared. The student's academic background will be carefully reviewed by KU before a student without a bachelor's degree will be admitted to the DPT program.

  2. 3.0 Grade Point Average
An overall 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0-scale is required. In addition, student transcripts must document a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in all prerequisite courses including Math and Science course work.

  3. "C" Grade or Higher
A passing grade is required in all prerequisite courses. A “D” is not considered a passing grade. All prerequisite science courses must be completed within the last 10 years.

  4. Satisfactory GRE Score
We recommend a minimum 450 (verbal and quantitative sections), and 4.0 (writing section) scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test. The GRE must have been taken within the past five (5) years to be valid on an application.

  5. 32 Hours Clinical Observation Experience
A minimum 32 hours in a physical therapy clinic under the supervision of a physical therapist is required, with at least 16 of those hours occurring in a hospital setting. We recommend students try to observe physical therapists in a wide variety of settings. Those settings include but are not limited to hospitals, private practice clinics, school systems, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and hospice care centers. Written verification of observation experience must be provided by the supervisor.

  6. Other Requirements: International Students
You are considered an international student if you require a visa, or currently reside in the U.S. with non-immigrant status, or currently residing in the U.S. and applying for permanent resident. International students must meet additional requirements for admission.

NOTE: The KU Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science reserves the right to waive any documentation normally required and to accept or deny admission whenever it believes sufficient information exists to make a decision.
